Piega Premium 501 – High-End Floorstanding Loudspeakers – Aluminium Enclosures – Near Mint with Original Packaging
The Piega Premium 501 is an exceptionally slender high-end floorstanding loudspeaker from Swiss manufacturer Piega, combining sophisticated aluminium cabinet construction with the ribbon technology for which the company has become particularly well known.

Swiss HiFi in an Exceptionally Slender Form
At just 15.9 cm wide, the Premium 501 is remarkably narrow.
With a height of 101 cm, it has an elegant and discreet appearance that allows it to integrate beautifully into a living environment.
Behind its understated design, however, lies a technically sophisticated loudspeaker.
The enclosure is based on an elaborate extruded aluminium profile. The considerable rigidity of aluminium allows the cabinet walls to remain relatively thin and is an important factor in achieving the remarkably slender proportions of the Premium 501.
Sophisticated Aluminium Construction
Piega devoted considerable engineering effort to combining the advantages of aluminium with effective resonance control.
The front baffle consists of 8 mm aluminium combined internally with an MDF panel.
Additional internal bracing increases cabinet rigidity, while carefully applied bitumen damping helps control unwanted resonances.
The result is a cabinet that is not merely elegant and exceptionally slim, but has been designed with serious acoustic considerations in mind.
Even the grilles are neatly integrated into the concept and are retained by magnets recessed into the front panel.
2½-Way Design
The Premium 501 is a 2½-way bass-reflex loudspeaker.
It employs two long-throw 120 mm MDS mid/bass drivers.
The lower driver operates in the bass range up to approximately 700 Hz, while the upper driver continues through the important midrange before handing over to the ribbon tweeter at approximately 3,000 Hz.
This arrangement allows both 120 mm drivers to contribute in the bass while a single driver reproduces the critical midrange.
Piega LDR 2642 MKII Ribbon Tweeter
One of the defining features of the Premium 501 is its LDR 2642 MKII ribbon tweeter.
Piega has been closely associated with the development and manufacture of ribbon transducers for decades.
In the Premium 501, the LDR 2642 MKII takes over above approximately 3 kHz. According to Piega and the LowBeats report, this tweeter is assembled by hand at Piega's Swiss manufacture.
The extremely low moving mass associated with ribbon technology provides ideal conditions for fast and finely resolved high-frequency reproduction.
Sound Character
In its listening assessment, LowBeats particularly praised the Premium 501 for its fine, transparent and natural presentation.
The midrange and treble were highlighted as particular strengths, with a finely resolved midband followed by an exceptionally airy high-frequency presentation.
The review also praised the loudspeaker's spacious yet convincing reproduction of instruments and acoustic environments.
Despite using only two 120 mm mid/bass drivers, the slender Piega is capable of a surprisingly substantial and convincing bass performance.
The Premium 501 is not intended as an exceptionally high-efficiency or extreme-output design. Instead, Piega chose a carefully considered balance between very slender dimensions, useful bass extension and high levels of resolution and refinement.
Living-Room-Friendly Placement
An interesting advantage of the Premium 501 is its suitability for placement relatively close to the rear wall.

The A1 arrived safely with me. The device was really well packaged by you and is visually in perfect condition for its age! In the meantime I have carried out some listening tests (with my rather modest components: Nuber nuWave floorstanding speakers, Dual 704 with Vinylmaster Silver and Technics Sl 1500 with Goldring IGC 910). In comparison, my Yamaha A-960, which has also been overhauled, can't keep up. The A1 reproduces the sounds extremely cleanly and precisely with great depth and pleasant dynamics, really great sound! More quality than I expected.
